Tower of Babel
A conceptual representation of the tower of babel, 14 meters high. The tower housed an audio installation consisting of ten speakers playing ten different languages simultaneously.
A 6 meter truss circle fixed on top of a scissor lift was attached to a cone-shaped nylon mesh. Floor by floor the mesh was covered with pre-fabricated polyethylene foam fronts. A 10 meter pipe circle at the bottom was pinned to the ground, supporting the construction. The outer walls were made entirely of polyethylene foam and were cut, glued and painted to look like walls, decorated by imprints of animals and ancient symbols. The plates for the imprints were made by hand from wood and pressed into pre-heated pieces of foam.
